DayBreak Adult Care Services presents check to Meals on Wheels, July's winner of the Charitable Donation Contest.

Columbia-Daybreak Adult Care Services is celebrating their tenth anniversary and saying thank you by giving back to the community. Each month the nonprofit organization receiving the most votes on the DayBreak website receives a check from DayBreak Adult Care Services for $500.00. The winner of the July contest was Meals on Wheels. The Meals on Wheels program is part of Senior Resources whose mission is to "Keep Seniors Living Independently."

According to Anne Eveleigh, Director of Development for Senior Resources, the Meals on Wheels program started over 30 years ago with 2 volunteers and 1 route. Today it has grown to close to 40 routes and 1000 volunteers. The program now offers 4 components - 1) Hot Meal Delivery Monday - Friday; 2) Frozen Meal delivery to outlaying areas; 3) Wellness Centers (with transportation included to/from the centers included) and 4) Monthly Pet Food delivery.

Rose Johnson (volunteer for Meals on Wheels) saw a flyer posted at the Trenholm Road United Methodist Church "Meals Site" where she helps packs meals in May when Senior Resources asked their volunteers to vote daily for the Charity of Choice offered by DayBreak Adult Care Services. Rose checked monthly to see if the Meals Site had won. But Rose never gave up. She continued to vote daily and check monthly. Her breathe was taken away when she received a call from Coker Day, owner of DayBreak, announcing that the Meals Program had won the July Charity give away. Ms. Johnson said "I was so stunned I couldn't speak. I didn't even know what to say. I was just thankful that finally we got it." Rose's mother received home delivered Meals On Wheels about 15 years ago and when Rose decided to give back to her community, she chose our Meals On Wheels program.

DayBreak Adult Care Services is locally owned and operated by Coker Day. With the increased need for quality personal care in the aging population of our community, DayBreak Adult Care Services can meet the needs of its clients while maintaining their dignity and independence in daily living.
